Why Oprah & Gayle will never be my Aunties

IMG-5019Both Oprah and Gayle are pioneers of the media. They are both what is considered to be high profile, accolade decorated, researching journalists that have been in media for 30+ years. Knowing these details about them only increases my sadness, because honestly they know better than most, that their behavior is damaging and toxic to society.

Mamba Life

If you grew up in the 90s and the 2000s, Kobe Bryant was a part of your childhood. You watched him grow up because it feels like we all grew up together. Do you remember when he took Brandy to prom? I always loved his Sprite commercials. My favorites were the one with him and Tim Duncan, and the one where they show Kobe in a bunch of different professions (Links to commercials are at the end of the article).

Colorism and nappy hair

GOOD AND BAD HAIR VIDEO CLIP FullSizeRender

COLORISM IS STILL A THING! Unfortunately we have Black celebrities making negative comments about the richness of chocolate skin! We have to hold everyone accountable. It’s a hard lesson on thinking before you speak. Not to mention that it is extremely important to dig deep and educate oneself on why a person has those types of feelings. Eva of #RHOA constantly makes distasteful comments about skin color and hair texture. Then she back pedals when called out on her nonsense! Continue reading “Colorism and nappy hair”

Female Rap

Last week I posted a video (Video is below) discussing how multiple female rappers are currently out, and releasing music. We haven’t had so many female rappers out at the same time since the 90s. In the video I forgot a lot of names of female rappers in the game right now. So, first I’d like to redefine the list of female rappers with current music in rotation. Continue reading “Female Rap”

Computer Love

Do you remember when the song Computer Love first debuted on the radio? I was a kid but I remember learning the lyrics and how to replicate the beat using my hands and chest. The 90s were truly a time to be alive and growing up! Who would’ve guessed that “Computer Love” would be a real thing?! People date and “kick it with” people online everyday now!

Thirst Trappin

Social media is full of the “high horse men.” You know, the men that are constantly talking about women taking selfies or showing off their bodies for attention. Those same men are the ones giving the same women that they are complaining about all the likes, hearts, and heart eyes. Don’t get me wrong, I like the pictures too but Im not complaining about the picture either.

Boss Moves

Everyone’s goal seems to be to make money. Even when you’re making money, the goal is to make more money- but when and where does it stop?  How much money do you have to make before the decision is made to continuously uplift and support your community?

Woman to Woman

BEYOND TIRED

Listen! As a Black woman living in the USA, I am so tired! I’m tired of having to constantly defend myself. I’m tired of not being allowed to express myself in ways other women express themselves without being nailed to the cross. I’m tired of my wide nose, full lips, style of hair, and the size of my derrière being praised and glorified on women that do not look like me, share my culture, or my struggle. I’m tired of the world telling me that my thoughts and feelings do not matter! Continue reading “Woman to Woman”

Learning through reflection

The last year to date has been a transitional phase for me in so many ways. I’ve been on a spiritual journey since the end of 2016 and it entailed a lot. It required a lot from me in the process. I’ve basically been unlearning everything that I’ve been taught as “right or wrong.” Exploring the way I process information, and more importantly my self talk and doubts. Motor City Pride Nazis and Chief Craig

THE FACTS WITH A SMIDGE OF SARCASM AND OPINION

Last weekend was Motor City Pride, and should have been a joyous weekend for the LGBTQ+ community and those who love and support them. However, to the surprise of Motor City Pride attendees, they were met by a hate group -The Neo Nazis! The Nazis marched through Downtown Detroit with AR-15s and at least two other types of guns, and had huge shield guards. Of course everyone was surprised except the Detroit Police Department and The Police Chief James Craig. Continue reading “Motor City Pride Nazis and Chief Craig”
