Women in Congress you should know!

Ever since orange face has been in office I have been going out of my way to disassociate myself from the political world. I had been avoiding political conversations, Tweets, articles, in any form of media that I could think of. I mean lets face it discussing politics opens a person like myself up to be ambushed by racist.. Not just any racist but the ones that don’t think they are racist which are the worst kind in my opinion. Not to mention the things that have been happening are just utterly ridiculous and unbelievable!

Anyway one day I was scrolling through some videos and there I saw Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York in a courtroom discussing how free health care is actually something the United States can achieve. So, I started to find more information about her work, how she was elected, and where she was from. I was fascinated by her because she wasn’t afraid to say or imply anything. She wasn’t a politician I was used to, she was a straight shooter! She was honest! I started to do more research on all the recently elected women in Congress.

I found Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan (Detroiter), and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. I personally voted for Rashida Tlaib, and I always say she is the best vote I’ve cast in a while. I decided to provide an examples of something each Congresswoman has done and/orsaid. Rashida wasn’t afraid to call one of her peers,  Mark Meadows out for committing a racist act during the Michal Cohen testimony. Mark Meadows is one of those people who think he’s not racist because he has Black family members or whatever (I digress).  Ayanna Pressley had to go toe to toe with Ben Carson due to him being accountable for proper public housing. Safe, clean, and attainable public housing is one of the things that Ayanna is committed to ensuring the community. Carson was extremely arrogant and dismissive of his failures in Public housing while half answering the questions Pressley asked. Last but certainly not least Ilhan Omar who constantly has to defend herself about everything she says.  The media didn’t like that she said what we all have been thinking. Since when did America allow Israel to dictate what happens and how the country operates? She was accused of being anti-Semitic. Yet, no one answered the question. Side note: Why would the United States keep backing and supporting a Country that takes pride in bombing Palestinian people (including children at school)simply because they exist? That’s an act of terrorism, right?  Regardless of how the media tries to make Ilhan out to be a terrorist villain she corrects them and speaks her truth!

These fearless women made me believe again. They also support one another, which is important. They make me feel as if there are people in office that are really fighting for everyday people. That all is not lost. Which also makes me fearful for them. They are game changers and they make it known. They even have orange face attacking them daily on Twitter.  If you don’t know who these women are please look them up. It’s imperative to our survival. I’m happy to say that I have engulfed myself back into political readings and staying on top of what’s happening.

I solely have Congress women Pressely, Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, and Tlaib to thank.
