Soft Life
Picture lying on the beach wearing your best fitting swimsuit, a huge sun hat, big frame sunglasses, sipping a mock or cocktail. Maybe you’re having a full body massage and your facial is scheduled for 3pm. Are those similar to the activities you think of when you hear someone mention “soft life?”I know I thoroughly enjoy the days when I pamper myself. But, that seems to be more of the physical, maybe even superficial version of soft life.
True softness has taken a turn in its meaning. Softness is almost equivalent to taking the road less traveled. It’s being kind with your words, because after all honesty without compassion is brutality. It’s allowing someone that is upset with you to speak without interrupting them in an attempt to defend yourself or to point blame. Softness is knowing that most people cant hear when they are upset, so yielding in the moment will minimize any confusion or escalation. Don’t allow those people at work to get under your skin. After all it’s just a job and most people are fighting private battles and looking for someone to take their anger out on.
Softness is making a choice to not over explain or over think. But, instead to allow your actions to speak for you. Softness is making the decision to give humans grace even though you may feel they don’t deserve it. Making the decision not to debate with anyone because it requires lots of energy, especially when you know you’re right. Choosing peace will always be beneficial for your mental health.
While others match energy, softness requires withdrawal of energy. Protecting your peace is softness at its fineness
No overworking, overthinking, or overreacting. Instead accept assistance from others, ask for help if needed, and don’t take everything so personally. Making the decision to protect yourself mentally, physically, spiritually, and and controlling ones emotions is the ultimate soft life.
